Baggage is an important part of travel and passengers would like to take utmost care of their baggage. Only the rare passenger flies without carrying at least one piece of carry-on baggage, and many have to check one or more pieces of luggage as well. While there is always the risk of having items lost, misplaced, stolen, or damaged, many of the common risks can be reduced, avoided, or eliminated with a little bit of planning. Loss of baggage, misrouting of baggage has always been a nightmare for passengers. Hence most travellers are eager to know how airlines handle their baggage once it is handed over to them till they retrieve it from the conveyer belt at the destination airport. What happens if the baggage is damaged or misrouted or lost? How much compensation is to be given by airlines for such mishaps? What are the international rules governing them? Are there insurance policies to cover the airline baggage? There are plenty of such questions in the minds of curious passengers. This course is an attempt to clear all these doubts and clear the concept of baggage handling right from its definition to the complex handling and tracking systems.
